God's Jubilee Plan to Redeem the Earth

Here is a radical idea of the  gospel of the Kingdom: God has a plan to redeem the earth, not just the salvation of souls but that all the assets of the earth must come into the Kingdom of God that there be no poor in the land....

We are all well versed from many sermons in the truth that Jesus Christ came to redeem mankind through His payment on the cross for our sins. To "redeem" means to buy back that which was lost, to change ownership.  We were lost to God through our sins and Christ came to pay the price for our "redemption".

But that is not the end of the story of redemption. For normal church sermons that is the story of redemption.  But there is another side to redemption....bringing all the earth and its assets under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That is God's economic program clearly outlined in the Old Testament to Israel so that there be no poor in the land.

I want to show you the basic idea of the earth redemption plan from scripture. This program of the redemption of the earth was not just meant for Israel but was meant for the whole world. Israel never accomplished it....but Jesus said that the Kingdom was to be taken from the Jews and given to another to bring forth the fruits that God desired...and that "other" is the Church.  The Church needs to get on with God's plan to redeem the earth for His purposes.

Here is what God plans:

Isaiah 11:9  "...the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
Numbers 14:21 "But indeed as I live all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord."
Hebrews 8:11 "all shall know me from the least to the greatest of them."
Mal. 1;11 "From the rising of the sun even to its setting my name shall be great among the nations and in every place incense is going to be offered in my name"

God's plan is for all creation and all creatures to be set free from slavery...

Rom. 8:19-21 "....that all creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God."

In my previous blogs I introduced you to God's Jubilee plan.  This was an economic plan. It showed us that God is not only interested in our soul's redemption but he also wants to 'redeem" all the earth and all creatures to their proper functioning. And that means that the economic and physical assets of the earth must be "redeemed" or bought back to be repurposed for God's purposes...and not for corruption.

God's 50 year Asset Purchase Program

Lets repeat God's 50 year Jubilee agenda:

Lev. 25:10 "You shall thus consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim a release through the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a Jubilee for you and each of you shall return to his own property and each of your shall return to his family."

No lets make this clear...
Who's land is it and which land are we talking about?

Jer. 27:5 "I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground by my great power and by my outstretched arm and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me."

God is the owner of the earth and all that is in it. We all are His temporary tenants.  It is God's intention to give all the earth and all its assets to His children as their inheritance.  That time has now come for the liberation of planet earth.

In Leviticus God lays out a 50 year program of asset accumulation so that by the end of that period all the families of Israel were to be owners of the assets of the land.

This program of asset accumulation was to be done in 7 seven year time frames amounting to 49 years. The 50th year was to be a great celebration that the land has been liberated from the old owners who have been dispossessed and now into the hands of God's people.

This is what Deut. 15: 1-6  says....

"At the end of every seven years you shall make a release. And the manner of this release is that every creditor shall release that which he has lent unto his neighbour...howbeit there shall be no poor among you for the Lord shall will surely bless you in the land that the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it....for the Lord God will bless you as he promised you and you shall lend to many nations but you shall not borrow; and you shall rule over many nations but they shall not rule over you."

Lots to unpack here that I cannot do in this short blog but let me make the following observations:

Every time you read or hear about "Jubilee" it is always talked about as "debt forgiveness". Wrong. Debt forgiveness or debt limitation was every 7 years. The Jubilee was after the 7th debt forgiveness in the 49th year and then in the 50th year the Jubilee economic program was to be completed with much rejoicing.

Next: God is the judicial owner of the earth and He can give it to whoever He wishes. He wishes us to be co-heirs with Christ to inherit all things. But we start with this earth. We are not to be Vikings and kill and plunder through theft. We are to work economically through careful capital accumulation over a period of 49 years.

Key to the Jubilee economic liberation program is that we are to work very carefully with debt. Debt or borrowing is good if we are using it responsibly to buy assets. We must however be careful not to get into perpetual debt. The Bible principle is that of "limited liability".  Make sure that you are at all times paying off debt. Once debt free you can rapidly buy up assets and increase your passive income through investments and savings.

It also clear from this passage that our economic program as God tells Israel is that they are to be in such a position of accumulated savings that they are able to lend to other nations and not borrow.  To be able to lend surplus cash means that you are limiting you consumption to below your income. You are producing more than you consume.  God's people are able to do this because we are able to say with Paul "Godliness with contentment is great gain"...we are able to be content with sufficiency of food clothes and a roof over our heads. While the world chases useless luxuries and waste their time and money on vanity and pride.

Redeeming the poor

We are not just to buy up the assets of the sinners to place them in God's Kingdom but God's economic Jubilee program was also there to free the slaves through redemptions...Israel was to "redeem" or buy back the slaves.

Lev. 25: 39-41 says "And if thy brother be waxed poor with thee, and sell himself unto thee; thou shalt not make him to serve as a bond-servant.  As a hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee; he shall serve with thee unto the year of jubilee:   then shall he go out from thee, he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return. "

Today the average wage slave in the world is living from paycheque to paycheque.  They have no savings, no pension for old age, no security. A slave in the days of Israel had the security of a place to live, food to eat and was the responsibility of the master till old age and death.  Today the "masters" the corporation will fire you the moment you are a liability. There is no financial security in the world today for the average worker.

God's program as outlined by Leviticus 25 above are the following:

We are to buy up productive assets of the land.
We are to hire our own Christian brothers and sisters in the Lord.
We are not pay them slave wages and treat them as if they have no financial security.
We are to make sure that they also participate in the Jubilee and are able to accumulate productive assets.

But is this Jubilee vision possible?

Let me give you some examples of wealth accumulation and liberation from poverty in 40-50 year time frames:

  • South Korea moved from abject poverty after Japanese occupation in 1945 to national prosperity by 1985...with no natural resources.
  • Singapore moved from dismal swamp of poor people in 1960 to one of the most prosperous nations in the world by 2000...no natural resources.
  • Taiwan from 1948 breaking free from communist China to prosperous nation by 1988
  • China a billion people in abject poverty under communism and Mao's cultural revolution kicked out communist economic policies in 1978 and by 2017 had brought 600 million people out of poverty to middle class prosperity.
  • Israel in 1948 a new nation poor and farming in Kibbutzim and 40 years later a rich and prosperous nation.
  • The Japanese in the Meiji Restoration of 1868 went from Feudalism to world economic power in 40 years
  • Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway...in 1967 the famous Warren Buffet had taken control of a small and failing textile company and 50 years later in 2016 that company is now the 4th largest public company in the world with $620 billion in assets and operating income of $32 billion pa.

I can list many more examples.

But here is the points I wish to make of God's Jubilee economic plan:

Every example I mentioned above were financial success stories because they followed to some degree God's economic principles for prosperity as laid out by Moses 3,400 years ago....and that included: sound money, rule of law, private property, savings and investment, skills development....and bringing people together for a common purpose!

We evangelical Charismatics now number about 700 million people world wide and at the rate we are growing we will soon be 1 billion.

If we had leaders with vision we can easily within 49 years own all or substantially all of the economic assets of the world.

God has strategically placed His people all over the world in all nations and wherever you find Christians you also find that they are mostly honest, hard working, highly skilled, entrepreneurial and able by their lifestyles to save money, have families and children.

The worldly of the earth abort their babies, have homosexual relations with no children, others place career before children and families. In short...the ungodly have no future and nations are in such deep debt and serious demographic collapse.

The ungodly have no long term future...the world and all its assets are there for the people of God to possess. The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous and all the great technical breakthroughs that are flooding the world are there as gifts from the Lord for us to use for His Kingdom.

None of the success stories above including Warren Buffets story happened by one person acting alone.  Groups of people whether in the form of a nation or in the form of a company came together and made a covenant with one another, this covenant being either a national constitution or a corporate association, they came together for a covenanted purpose to do great things together as a people.

The Church of Jesus Christ needs to get out of its useless divisions, and its endless talking and bring the people of God together for a vision of the Kingdom as a world liberating force to redeem the earth and its assets and its people to be repurposed for God's purposes.

"Fear not little flock for its the Father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom" (Luke 12:32)
