The Church, the World and the New Technocratic Age: Part 1

Both the Church and the world system is reaching a crisis point with regard to the future now rushing toward us.  The cause is the unexpected impact of the technocratic age now permeating the world. I believe God is forcing a New World Order on both. I want to explore the essence of the crisis as well as the coming new world order in the next series of blogs with you.

I recorded a lengthy presentation on GodTV last week by Past. Bickle of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City on the topic "Signs of the Times". I had never heard him preach but knew by reputation that his IHOP centre was famous years ago as the home of the "Kansas City Prophets Movement".

I suspected what the usual "signs of the times" theme is all about. It was very popular in the broad evangelical church back in the 70's and 80's until the prosperity movement took the limelight...nobody really wanted to hear about the end of the world in the booming economic 90's.  But here we are deep into the 21st century and I wanted to hear from the leader of the renowned prophetic movement what did he consider the "signs of the times" now in the 21st century and what is next on God's prophetic calendar?

It turned out to be the same message from the 70's and 80's.  Wars, pestilence, famine, Antichrist, world government, mark of the Beast....and of course the greatest sign Israel. All leading to....Jesus is coming soon. Past. Bickle tried his best to paint as gloomy a picture as possible of the world situation as a precursor to the coming of the Lord.  But I sensed no real enthusiasm from either himself or his audience.

The problem of course is the rise of the technocratic age in the intervening years since the apocalyptic era of the 70's and '80's when Late Great Planet earth sold 60 million copies.  There is more wealth, more peace, more food, more health than at any time in history. Communism and Fascism have been consigned to the dustbin of history. Chinese Red Armies are not invading the Middle East instead Chinese tourists are invading the world and the Chinese One Belt One Road "silk road initiative of vast investments in infrastructure has taken 600 million Chinese out of poverty and China today is not only the largest printer of Bibles in the world but home to the largest evangelical charismatic movement in the world.

And of course then the obvious other predictions that never came about...Russia has no intention of being Gog and Magog and invading Israel, in fact they have built more than 10,000 churches with state money.  And who could have thought of the internet and the fact that the Bible no longer needs to be smuggled across closed's practically a borderless work in which you can download the entire Bible for free anywhere in the world.

I wont belabour the point.  What I do want to explore however is that this is just the beginning of the real technocratic marvels to come and the world disruptions to come in the very near future are going to require an entire new paradigm for the church as to how we do church, how we define church, how we define the real signs of the times and what they are telling us.

I need to explore these with you as it is critical for your future that we understand what God is really doing in the world.

The crisis for the world system is even worse.

In the last century there were two seminal novels that predicted two different outcomes for the world to come. George Orwell's "1984" and Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World". Two contrasting visions of the world to come...

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books...What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book for there would be no one who is interested to read books. (42% of College graduates never read a book again)
Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information...Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egotism. (A billion hours of Youtube watched every day)
Orwell feared the truth would be concealed from us...Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. (endless amounts of video time in games, shows, movies)
Orwell feared we would be a captive culture...Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture preoccupied with silliness.
In "1984" people are controlled by inflicting pain.  In "Brave New World" people are controlled by inflicting pleasure. (note the obesity crisis, the drug crisis etc)
Orwell feared that what we have will ruin us.  Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us. (our electronic diversions of cell phones, Ipads, etc. as Smeagel said "my precious"

The seminal moment in our recent history that decided whether the world system  was going Orwell's way or Huxley's way was ironically in 1984.  The acknowledged greatest advert of our age was Apple computer introducing the new Macintosh graphical computer during ad time in the 1984 NFL Super Bowl.  A woman running through a crowd with a hammer smashing Orwell's 1984 can still see it on was prophetic.  It was that moment in 1984 with the introduction of the graphical Apple Macintosh that smashed the world of Orwell and all the prophecies of Big Brother and Antichrist and One World Government...the technocratic "Brave New World" of Huxley was born.

The church prophecy movement is still expecting 1984.  They don't realize it's a "Brave New World" now.

But it is that Brave New World of Huxley that is now falling apart.

By world system I mean the cultural, economic and political world system.  The technocratic age has irreparably broken down all the old ideas of how economics works, how nations work, how culture is defined.

I need to explore this with you. Especially the new economic realities of the world technocratic economy. It is destroying the old world order.  And the power centres of the old word order haven't a clue as to how to put their world back together and do not know how to control the new word order...and forget all the old conspiracy theories...they've lost control and do not know how to structure a new world order. I need to explore with why this is so.

But here is the theme of this series of Blogs:

God is busy doing something in the earth that neither popular church prophecies or one world government conspirators predicted.  There is an entirely different dynamic at work in the world. I have studied this for years and have come to what I think is a fascinating thesis:  God is driving church and spiritual growth, plus economic and technocratic growth, plus world growth into one direction from which there is no escape....the visible, tangible, manifestation of the Kingdom of God on earth. It is inexorable, unstoppable, inevitable.

And along this path littered on the sidelines of this historical world path lie the failures of human effort, of human constructs built on sand, whether they be false ideological constructs, false political constructs, false economic theories.  In our short lifetime we have seen many of these fall by the wayside.

There was a time when the terror of lightening and thunder could only be explained as the manifestation of mighty Zeus throwing his thunderbolts.  And then reality in the form of electricity intervened and nobody believes that nonsense any more.

This is the march of God's historical plan for man.  The road starts out broad iwth many diversions...but as time progresses reality, that is God's reality manifests itself. That reality is that the world and all in it that we describe as reality was made by the Word of God who is Jesus Christ. And He now upholds all things by the word of his power...He literally sustains and maintains reality.

And that is why all of human and this world's reality ends up in the march of time at the source of He who created the world.  Technology, history, economics, culture, every construct of man that is not in line with the Christ created reality structure ends up in the trash heap of history.

That is why every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, that is why every thought will be brought into obedience to Him. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.  It all started with Him and all history is moving towards Him...the Bible story at the end is called "Revelation" or in Greek "apokalypsis".  The Apocalypse is part destruction and part Revelation.  The destruction of the old world order is now proceeding...the revelation of Christ to the world is now also proceeding.

And this is the point of the technocratic age: God is using the new destructive and creative powers of the technocratic age to vastly hasten the process of destruction and revelation. And we the church are not going to be taken out of the earth...we are going to be kept on the earth to be the vanguard of the revolution now taking place to restructure and rebuild the world to come.

In coming blogs for instance I am going to show you how the new technology is destroying the word economic system and only the church using Biblical economics can recreate a new workeable world economic system. The same is coming in world politics and culture.

It is time to really take another look at the signs of the times of the 21st Century and leave behind the 20th Century.  It is a new era with new signs and we need to hear what God is saying to our generation if we are going to navigate the rough seas ahead.

Next week more signs of the times and what they mean for our future....
